Here are some answers to the inevitable questions...</span></i><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<b><span style="color: #444444;">What does 'taking the season off' mean?</span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span></b>
<span style="color: #444444;">The following features will be unavailable for SS15:</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">● Live stream schedules on both the desktop and mobile website</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;">● The live stream plug-in for blogs will not be updated</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;">● There will be no #CatwalkLiveTV reminders</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;">● The video archive will not be regularly updated</span><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span></b>
<b><span style="color: #444444;">Why are you taking the season off?</span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span></b>
<span style="color: #444444;">I needed a break. I love fashion month, but running CatwalkLive.TV made it hard to enjoy it. CatwalkLive.TV needs to be modernised so that it is easier to update. I work full time, and on top of that I spend an average three-or-four hours every day checking for live streams, updating the schedules and scheduling tweets for CatwalkLive.TV.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">● <a href="http://catwalklivetv.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/a-day-in-life-of-catwalklivetv.html" target="_blank">Please <b>read this post</b> on what is involved with running CatwalkLive.TV</a></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<b><span style="color: #444444;">Why this season?</span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span></b>
<span style="color: #444444;">Last season was harder than ever. The site has more features than ever before, there are more live streams than ever before, and last season was blighted by the fact live streaming providers kept cancelling shows or changing the times. Of course, these changes reflect badly on me, so I take it personally when I give up so much of my time and then people complain.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">● <a href="http://catwalklivetv.blogspot.co.uk/2014/03/a-few-examples-of-problems-with-live.html" target="_blank">Please <b>read this post</b> on the problems I encounter</a></span><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span></b>
<b><span style="color: #444444;">Will you be returning next season?</span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span></b>
<span style="color: #444444;">I hope so. It very much depends on whether I can simplify things and whether it becomes realistic to juggle the demands of the site, and my enjoyment of fashion month. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<b><span style="color: #444444;">Does this not damage the site in the long run?</span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span></b>
<span style="color: #444444;">Probably, yes. But if people genuinely find the service useful, they'll be back, and if not, then I don't need to come back next season :)</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<b><span style="color: #444444;">Do you not feel guilty about leaving people in the lurch?</span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span></b>
<span style="color: #444444;">Of course. Hopefully most reasonable people will understand my reasons, and will have appreciated the work I have put into the last three years that the site has existed. If not, then you were probably one of the people who complained in previous seasons when a live stream was missed.</span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3211276853024729953.post-62128233874415859122014-03-06T11:15:00.000-08:002014-03-06T11:15:14.479-08:00Review of Fall/Winter 2014's live streams<b><span style="color: #444444;">We made it! Hope everybody enjoyed fashion month, the live streams, and CatwalkLive's coverage. This season more shows live streamed than ever before. </span></b><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><b><br /></b>
This season was excellent in terms of sheer numbers with 196 shows live streaming, compared to 176 in Spring/Summer 2014.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">My season started off with a rather blunt email from Milk Studios informing me that no shows would be live streaming this season. With several designers fleeing the tents at the Lincoln Center, the thought crossed my mind that live streaming may well have peaked. As New York closed, we had already lost six live streams compared to the same time last season, but frankly it could have been worse.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">London Fashion Week's offering last season was embarrassing and followed season-after-season of decline. I told them this - a lot - by every method I had available; by Twitter, by phone and by email. I would have faxed them, too, had it been the 1990s. Fortunately, London added several new venues and shows to their offering meaning they live streamed more shows than ever. They still have work to do, though, as apart from <i>Burberry</i>, their offering is pretty basic technologically-speaking, but they've at least made progress.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">Milan was Milan. There's not really much to say other than the fact they're extremely reliable with an almost unchanged number of live streams since I started doing the site. They also have the most impressive live streams in general, along with New York.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">Meanwhile, in Paris, it was an interesting season. More shows than ever live streamed, but the offering was erratic. MyBeautifulDressing live streamed their fare share, but caused confusion due to a mix of technical problems and miscommunication. To be fair to them, they're new to live streaming, and I know full well how critical users can be.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<b><span style="color: #444444;">New this season</span></b><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><b><br /></b>
There were plenty of new live streams this season including <i>Hunter Original, Douglas Hannant, Balmain, </i>and <i>Hugo Boss</i>. <i>Temperley, Mary Katrantzou, Peter Pilotto</i> and <i>Vivienne Westwood Red Label</i> all returned after a few seasons off, so these more than made up for Milk Studios' deficit.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><b><br /></b>
<b>Absentees this season</b></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><b><br /></b><i>
Donna Karan</i> missed the opportunity to celebrate her 25th Anniversary by live streaming, <i>Mulberry</i> only had a low-key presentation and therefore didn't stream, while <i>Kenzo</i> have always had an on/off relationship with live streams with FW14 very much being an 'off' season. <i>Givenchy</i> also chose not to live stream despite showing last season.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<b><span style="color: #444444;">Summary</span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span></b>
<span style="color: #444444;">It was a good year in terms of numbers, but most of the new live streams were pretty disappointing, what with the unreliability of Paris, and the low-fi offering from London. It is at least progress, though, and does illustrate that there's still demand for live streams. </span><br />
<br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3211276853024729953.post-6071539279835987802014-03-01T02:04:00.003-08:002014-03-01T02:09:45.965-08:00A few examples of the problems with live streams<b><span style="color: #444444;">Here's a few examples of the problems I encounter putting together live streaming schedules, and making sure everybody is well informed about what shows will (and will not) be shown online.</span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span></b>
<b><span style="color: #444444;">Tsumori Chisato</span></b><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><b><br /></b>
I was sent a provisional schedule by My Beautiful Dressing which had Tsumori Chisato shown as live streaming. My daily check of their website didn't have the show listed, so I removed it and scheduled tweets explaining that it looked unlikely it would be live streaming.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">My Beautiful Dressing then tweeted an Instagram picture on the morning of the show advertising the show as live streaming, so it was added back onto our schedules, reminder tweets were scheduled and I advertised the fact it would now be live streaming.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">However, it still didn't appear on the site. Further digging revealed that it was not streaming due to broadband restrictions at the venue, and that the tweet advertising the show was a scheduled Instagram post that slipped the net. So once again, I had to remove it from our schedules and make sure the scheduled tweets were all deleted.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<b><span style="color: #444444;">John Galliano</span></b><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><b><br /></b>
John Galliano live streamed for the first time a few seasons ago on his Facebook page. The next season it was on his website. Then the season after he didn't live stream at all. This season he's live streaming on My Beautiful Dressing. On all the Paris schedules I've seen, it's listed as having a 5pm start time, however on MBD it's shown as 7.30pm. I'm living in Dubai at the moment, so there's the potential I will have to stay up until midnight to see what happens so that I can make sure people are informed as to when Galliano live streams.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<b><span style="color: #444444;">Gosia Baczynska</span></b><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><b><br /></b>
Turns out Gosia Baczynska was live streaming. They hadn't advertised it on their website or Facebook pages, and in fact it was an independent live stream that was buried away on a website I've never heard of before and that didn't come up on any of the Google searches I did.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">I discovered that it was live streaming when I was out having dinner at 10.30pm local time. I quickly scheduled reminder tweets to try my best to inform CatwalkLive.TV followers.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<br />
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en">
<span style="color: #444444;"><a href="https://twitter.com/catwalklivetv">@catwalklivetv</a> your <a href="https://twitter.com/search?q=%23PFW&src=hash">#PFW</a> schedule somehow didn't include all the show . What happen ?</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;">— Natalia Emmanuel (@Ermeerr) <a href="https://twitter.com/Ermeerr/statuses/439128819593932801">February 27, 2014</a></span></blockquote>
<script async="" charset="utf-8" src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js"></script><span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">Not everybody was satisfied with this, but I did everything I could to make sure people were aware of this new addition to the schedule. Unfortunately I have to draw the line at updating the website when I'm out with friends.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;"><b>Kenzo</b></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><b><br /></b></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">This is a frequent example of the vaguarities of live streaming. Kenzo don't normally live stream, but have done in the past. In SS12 they live streamed on their website, and last season they streamed on Youtube. This season their website has this image on their homepage:</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiob74MGR6gEPuxD2d7-l_OjdKeJVAh2X8GO96L393xozBB62TeNUZ9kEoYFnA6jiG8NEfSe2mtcaKgnL2GwZFtyfQ00aAwR72EZ_1Xbh3CFvTYmjLF2FrxC2-xq4pyKICtitNko-EuMkN6/s1600/thumbnail_1_8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiob74MGR6gEPuxD2d7-l_OjdKeJVAh2X8GO96L393xozBB62TeNUZ9kEoYFnA6jiG8NEfSe2mtcaKgnL2GwZFtyfQ00aAwR72EZ_1Xbh3CFvTYmjLF2FrxC2-xq4pyKICtitNko-EuMkN6/s1600/thumbnail_1_8.jpg" height="368" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">It's hard to know whether 'join us here' means there will be a live stream, <b>plus </b>they'll have Twitter and Instagram coverage, or whether they mean 'join us here' <b>for </b>the Twitter and Instagram coverage. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">Dozens of designers post similar images with the date and time of their show, but don't indicate whether they mean they're live streaming the show or not. I can't assume they are because people literally plan their lives around watching live streams of their favourite designers. I can't assume they're not because then people will be equally disappointed should they miss the show.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">The above examples are a cross-section of the problems I have encountered in the last couple of days. Understand that CatwalkLive.TV covers the whole of fashion month and hopefully you'll understand why now and again there are inaccuracies in the schedules.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">Paris is the <a href="http://catwalklivetv.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-peculiar-problem-with-paris.html" target="_blank"><b>worst week</b></a> I cover due to the fact so few shows live stream which means there is a lot more digging to be done to find designers that are showing online. Also if a designer streamed last season, it's no guarantee they'll be streaming again this season.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">This season I have <a href="http://catwalklivetv.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/a-day-in-life-of-catwalklivetv.html" target="_blank"><b>made many sacrifices</b></a> to make sure CatwalkLive is as accurate as possible. I will be taking next season off so that I can enjoy fashion month again. CatwalkLive is a result of my passion of following fashion, and the irony is that since I launched the site, I have less time than ever to follow the shows.</span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3211276853024729953.post-42484581201165136902014-02-18T09:38:00.002-08:002014-02-18T09:38:47.849-08:00London FW14 live streaming overview<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We're half way there; two fashion weeks down, two to go. As Milan gets under way, we look back on London Fashion Week's live streaming from this season.</span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></b>
<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="394" mozallowfullscreen="" scrolling="no" src="http://vds.rightster.com/v/01z0dhiex2qvn3?target=iframe&autoplay=0" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="700"></iframe></span></b><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><b>Above: </b><i>Burberry's live stream always gets people talking</i></span><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></b>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">45 shows live streamed this season, all of which were broadcasted on the London Fashion Week website, and most of which were provided by the British Fashion Council. Last season only 28 live streamed, while in Spring/Summer 42 live streamed, which just goes to show the progress London Fashion Week have made in the last six months with broadcasting shows.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In terms of new shows, we welcomed back <i>Vivienne Westwood Red Label</i>, <i>Temperley</i> and <i>House of Holland</i>. Also new this season was <i>Hunter Original</i> which seemed to be a popular addition. Shows such as <i>Mary Katrantzou</i> and <i>Peter Pilotto</i>, both of which have progressed from showing at Topshop's venue were back live streaming again, while <i>Burberry </i>stole the show - as always.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I've been vocal about the lack of live streaming from London. They were the first to really embrace live streaming, so when they lost their way it really bothered me. I'm glad they've finally addressed the lack of live streaming. They simply have to if they want to hold their own against the other three fashion weeks.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The live streams London offers are very low-fi - while New York has crane-mounted HD cameras panning around the showspace, London has a fixed SD camera in the photographers' pit. The live streams are pretty flat now when you compare with Milan and New York, so I hope they start using the technology available to them soon.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Overall, a good season, I just hope London can build on this momentum and offer a world-class live stream like they used to before New York realised the potential.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Next up, Milan. I'm happy to say we're live streaming four shows; <i>Emilio Pucci, Alberta Ferretti, John Richmond</i> and <i>Moschino</i>. Elsewhere, expect the status-quo - Milan is one of the most reliable in terms of live streaming.</span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3211276853024729953.post-62892550074631622622014-02-16T08:30:00.001-08:002014-02-16T09:11:12.110-08:00New York FW14 live streaming overview<b><span style="color: #444444;">As the fashion pack disguise the bags under their eyes by applying smokey eyeshaddow, here's our overview of the live streaming from New York this Fall/Winter 2014 season.</span></b><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><b><br /></b>
<b><iframe allowfullscreen="" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="394" mozallowfullscreen="" scrolling="no" src="http://vds.rightster.com/v/01z0f7k7x2qvn3?target=iframe&autoplay=0" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="700"></iframe></b></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><b>Above: </b><i>Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week highlights</i></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><b><br /></b>
87 shows live streamed this season, of which 62 were from the official Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week stream, while the rest were from other sources such as the designer's own website. Last season 93 shows live streamed, while previous to this it was 86.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">The biggest scalp in terms of live streams this season was the lack of live stream from Milk Studios. This was a huge surprise when we found this out as they've always embraced live streaming and have live streamed every season that CatwalkLive has existed.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">Despite this, it's been a decent season for live streams. There was the potential for a lot of upset live streaming-wise due to the exodus of designers from the Lincoln Center, but fortunately most live streamed for their new venues.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">This season saw two anniversaries; 40 years of <i>DVF</i>, who duly celebrated with pre-show interviews and video packages, and 25 years of <i>Donna Karan</i> who, for some reason, decided not to live stream.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">Making up for Milk's lack of streams, there were a few additions, including <i>Douglas Hannant</i>, <i>Hugo Boss</i>, and <i>Moncler</i>.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">In terms of problems, <i>Jenny Packham</i> announced that they were live streaming on New York Fashion Week Live, then on the morning of the stream announced it was going to be on their website, and then, as <i>The Fashion Spot</i> members noted, they removed this announcement. Lots of people missed out on the live stream as a result. Lots of people had problems with <i>Marc by Marc Jacobs</i> freezing and refreshing, too.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">Overall it was a good showing from New York. London is looking to be a strong season with live streams coming from lots of extra venues - at last. I'd like to think this is thanks to my constant moaning via Twitter and email.</span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3211276853024729953.post-83627870449988180932014-02-09T01:23:00.003-08:002014-02-09T03:30:17.804-08:00Volunteers needed<span style="color: #444444;">I've just realised that FW14 is CatwalkLive.TV's seventh season. Since launching in 2011, it's been a solo effort by me, Roz. <b><a href="http://catwalklivetv.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/a-day-in-life-of-catwalklivetv.html" target="_blank">Read this post</a></b> to see what a typical day for me is during fashion month.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br />
During my time curating the site, I have introduced a new layout, live streaming for New York and London, a blog widget, a mobile version of the website, a video archive, plus this blog. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br />
Every season I hope it will get easier, but so far it hasn't. There are shows that have live streamed before that don't. There are new additions and there are last-minute changes.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">We're not even a week in, and I've been caught out by<i> Monique L'Hullier's</i> start time changing, and despite checking Style.com last night, <i>Lela Rose</i> and<i> Hood by Air</i> have both since been added to their schedules.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">Basically behind the scenes I fly as close to the wire as possible to make sure the schedules are as accurate as possible, and still things slip the net. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444;">I've spent many late nights and early mornings helping people find live streams. Now after seven seasons, I'm asking for people to help me. Any volunteers will help secure the future of the site because every season so far it has been a case of 'if' the site returns, rather than 'when'.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br />
<b>I'm looking for volunteers who can spend around 20-30 minutes every day helping me ensure the listings are accurate. Your role would be to:</b></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><br />

<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">New York raises the curtain tomorrow with a few shows, but the madness in earnest begins on Thursday with Nicholas K being the first to live stream.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, what can we expect from the season in terms of live streams? </span><br />
<br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It seems that live streaming has plateaued now that New York, London and Milan all live streaming on-site shows, and Paris showing no motivation to follow suit.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">With regards to New York, there has been a much-reported exodus from the Lincoln Center which is very much the beating heart of fashion week. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><i>Zac Posen,</i> <i>Michael Kors, Diane von Furstenberg, Oscar de la Renta </i>and <i>Vera Wang</i> have all announced they're showing elsewhere, so obviously this disruption could well filter down to the offering of live streams.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It does, however, mean that there will be a fair few new names to the schedules, particularly from 'The Hub', which is a new venue to fashion week which aims to showcase emerging talent. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">However, Milk Studios will not be live streaming, so that's around ten shows off the live streaming schedules which is a sizeable chunk. Milk Studios were one of the first venues to embrace live streaming in New York, so it's bit of a worrying indictment that they're not streaming this season.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Meanwhile, in London, don't expect too much. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">While London used to lead the way in their digital offering, they have haemorrhaged live streams over the last few seasons with just 28 live streams last season compared to 38 for Autumn/Winter 2013.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There's nothing to suggest that London Fashion Week will be offering anything over-and-above the statutory amount, and with <i>Mulberry </i>taking the season off due to the lack of creative director, you can chalk that up as an absentee before we've even started.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<i><b style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">See also: </b><a href="http://catwalklivetv.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-peculiar-problem-with-paris.html" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;" target="_blank">The Peculiar Problem with Paris</a></i><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Milan has offered a decent and largely unchanged number of live streams for many seasons now, while Paris is... well, Paris. They like their exclusivity, so you should be able to count their offering on both hands. There could be a few extra live streams courtesy of MyBeautifulDressing as there were last season, though.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My prediction? By the end of this season there may well be fewer live streams than there were in SS14. If there are more, I think this will be courtesy of London streaming from an extra venue, but honestly, I'll be surprised.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><b>Finally, <a href="http://catwalklivetv.blogspot.com/2013/09/a-day-in-life-of-catwalklivetv.html" target="_blank">please read this post</a> that explains a bit about what goes into producing CatwalkLive.TV.</b></span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3211276853024729953.post-58687466570488157632013-10-04T09:37:00.002-07:002013-10-04T09:37:45.210-07:00Review of Spring/Summer 2014's live streams<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Life returns to normality after the whirlwind of Spring/Summer 2014. As it does, CatwalkLive.TV reflects on the live streaming offering this season from New York, London, Milan and Paris Fashion Week.</span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></b>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This season was a largely disappointing one. 176 shows live streamed compared to 180 last season. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">At a cursory look, a drop of four isn't too concerning, but it comes after increases every single season for the last three years - I'm hoping last season wasn't the peak and designers are losing enthusiasm for broadcasting their collections.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">New this season</span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></b>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A few designers live streamed for the first time this season, including <i>Philosophy by Alberta Ferretti</i>, <i>Kenzo, Antonio Marras, Veronique Leroy, Amaya Arzuga, </i>and <i>Anne Valerie Hash</i>. A few designers took the initiative themselves, but big credit has to go to trunk show website My Beautiful Dressing who live streamed three shows from Paris which definitely helped save a lacklustre season.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><i>Kenzo </i>have live streamed twice before, but haven't for several seasons now, so it was nice to see them back on the schedules. <i>Balenciaga </i>also live streamed after taking a season off in Fall/Winter 2013.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Absentees this season</span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></b>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The number of designers who chose not to live stream this season is both ominous and bizarre in equal measure. Ominous because it seems those designers don't see any benefit to broadcasting their shows, and bizarre because settling for blurry Instagram pictures and tweets is no substitute for seeing the collection in motion.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Just some of the designers who didn't live stream this season included <i>Derek Lam, Jen Kao, John Galliano, Paul & Joe, Shiatzy Chen, </i>and <i>Paola Frani. </i>Less importantly, but still making a dent in the total number of live streams were <i>Diesel Black & Gold, Adidas Y3, Etam </i>and <i>H&M.</i></span><br />
<i><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></i>
<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Technical problems</span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></b>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There were a few technical problems this season. Both <i>Carolina Herrera </i>and <i>Diane Von Furstenberg</i>'s live streams failed to show on the official Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week homepage, and also websites like CatwalkLive.TV. I suspect this is due to contractual/rights-related issues rather than technical, as they both showed without trouble on the designers' websites.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><i>Miu Miu</i>'s show seemed to work only on Chrome with theFashionSpot members complaining of compatibility problems using other browsers.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><i>Jil Sander</i>'s live stream completely died for the majority, however, and didn't show at all.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In summary...</span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></b>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://catwalklivetv.blogspot.com/2013/09/new-york-ss14-live-streaming-overview.html" target="_blank">New York</a> continues to lead the way with live streams. Every show from the Lincoln Centre and Milk Studios is live streamed, and many off-site designers such as Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang and Donna Karan embrace live streaming.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://catwalklivetv.blogspot.com/2013/09/london-ss14-live-streaming-overview.html" target="_blank">London</a> used to lead the way but has taken its foot off the gas and live streamed far fewer shows this season than last. <span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">With the exception of <i>Paola Frani, </i>it was very much the status quo in <a href="http://catwalklivetv.blogspot.com/2013/09/milan-ss14-live-stream-overview.html" target="_blank">Milan</a>. A decent offering, both from<i> </i>Milan's fashion council, Camera Moda, and also the larger heavyweight designers there.</span><br />

As the fashion pack reflect on this season's collections, we review Paris Fashion Week's SS14 live stream offering.</span></b><br />
<b><br /><iframe allowfullscreen="" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="360" mozallowfullscreen="" scrolling="no" src="http://vds.rightster.com/v/01z0p8pax2qvn3?target=iframe&autoplay=0" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe></b>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><b>Video: </b><i>Paris Fashion Week SS14 highlights</i></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b>Paris Fashion Week is the largest of the big four weeks that Fashion Month is comprised of, yet you wouldn't think so if you were to use live streams as any kind of measure.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<i><b style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">See also: </b><a href="http://catwalklivetv.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-peculiar-problem-with-paris.html" style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;" target="_blank">The Peculiar Problem with Paris</a></i><br /><ul>
</ul>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This season 16 designers live streamed, which continues a slow but incremental season-by-season increase. Last season 14 designers streamed, while it was only a few years ago only four shows were shown live online.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The increase is mainly down to trunk show website <i>My Beautiful Dressing </i>live streaming four shows; <b>Anne Valerie Hash</b>, <b>Sharon Wauchob</b>, <b>Alexis Mabille</b> and <b>Veronique Leroy</b>. As I discussed in the article on Paris' live streaming offering, we're relying on websites like <i>My Beautiful Dressing </i>to help put weight behind the concept of live streaming.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Ominously, several shows decided not to live stream. <b>Mugler </b>didn't this season, while <b>Paola Frani, John Galliano </b>and <b>H&M </b>were just some of the shows that live streamed last season, but chose not to this season.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So a positive season for Paris, but still relative baby steps. Still no sign of a breakthrough, although hopefully <i>My Beautiful Dressing </i>can help bridge the gap over the coming seasons.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Stay tuned for our overview of the season in general - if I could summarise it in one word, it would be 'disappointing' - more soon.</span><br />

They're all huge fashion houses, yet none of them are due to live stream their collections. The sad fact is, is that I suspect snowboots and mittens will be on trend in hell before <i>Chanel </i>ever live streams.</span></b><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Image: Style.com</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Paris is commonly regarded as the biggest of the four fashion weeks, yet their choice of live streams doesn't reflect this - with around 15 shows expected to live stream from Paris, New York will have live streamed six times as many shows as Paris this season.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">One of the reasons so many shows live stream from New York, London and Milan is because each of these cities offer their own live streaming coverage. Paris' fashion council - the catchily-named <i>Fédération Française de la Couture du Prêt-à-Porter des Couturiers and Créateurs de Mode </i>- doesn't offer this. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But beyond this, not many designers have taken the initiative either.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The question as to why is a bit harder to answer. Paris isn't a third-world country - it has both the technical and financial capabilities to live stream. London Fashion Week is a far smaller enterprise than Paris yet pound-for-pound offers many, many more live streams.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And that is probably the crux of the matter - London has more to gain from live streaming than Paris.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If London Fashion Week were a guy, and went to a party, he'd be there in his colourful ensemble, inviting himself into people's conversations and telling them how he's going to be the next big thing.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But Paris Fashion Week... if he were a guy? He'd be there in his well-pressed shirt wistfully gazing from the shadows drinking expensive champagne. He'd keep himself to himself and would conduct himself with a quiet restraint; he oozes confidence but doesn't need to say a word.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The colourful jock might be the centre of attention, but the mysterious gentleman in the corner says it best when he says nothing at all. His understated confidence has an allure that stirs people's curiosity.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Ultimately, Paris enjoys its exclusivity, and it seems their opinion of live streams is that it somehow cheapens what is a week for a privileged few. Of course, it extends beyond live streaming. Parisian designers are stubborn when it comes to embracing the internet.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">You only have to look through designers' websites and social media pages to understand how behind Paris is in terms of taking advantage of the digital era. As <a href="http://catwalklivetv.blogspot.co.uk/2013/09/a-day-in-life-of-catwalklivetv.html" target="_blank">previously mentioned</a> I go through many hundreds of websites during Fashion Month.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">On Facebook, Celine's page hasn't been updated for well over a year. Dries van Noten hasn't updated theirs since 2011. Incredibly, Rick Owens has been on Facebook since 2008, and despite having 68,000 page likes, has never been updated.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Meanwhile, on Google you'll see designers' websites languishing well down in the search results. Visit some of them and the dated web designs will make you feel like you've accidentally driven your DeLorean into 1985. Some designers don't even have a website.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Evidently, the value of the internet in Paris is much less than, for example, in New York.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The first designer to break rank and live stream from Paris was <i>Mugler. </i>The second time they live streamed was groundbreaking in that it live streamed not only their show, but fittings, rehearsals, interviews and backstage coverage.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Interestingly, their offering over the years has been fairweather at best, and they've not live streamed for a few seasons now. It would be interesting to know whether this is symptomatic of Paris' nonchalance towards live streaming content as it seems <i>Mugler</i> have decided there's no commercial benefit to broadcasting their shows.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Another interesting example is <i>Acne Studios</i>. At the point they moved from London to Paris, they no longer live streamed their show.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Despite this bleak netscape, there is hope. Let's not forget that several large designers do live stream; <i>Miu Miu </i>and <i>Louis Vuitton </i>have both become Paris Fashion Week live stream staples.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Spring/Summer 2011 looked to be bit of a watershed season with several designers stepping up to the plate with <i>Balenciaga </i>and<i> Christian Dior </i>amongst the big hitters to<i> </i>finally embrace live streaming. I genuinely believed cracks were appearing in the dam and other designers would follow. But largely, they haven't.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I believe for live streaming to become 'cultural' at Paris, it needs to be a collaborative effort. At the moment designers seem unconvinced of the benefits of live streaming. Like the other three fashion weeks, hopefully soon the Paris fashion council can get behind the idea of live streaming, encourage designers to live stream their shows too.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">You might not realise this, but a lot of live streams from different designers are produced by the same companies. Hopefully one of these content delivery companies can break the back of the anti-streaming stigma and allow the great unwashed a live glimpse into the world of Paris Fashion Week.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Until then, I'll make sure I visit every mothballed Facebook page and outdated website to make sure you're informed of every live stream I can find.</span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3211276853024729953.post-6879318953930409002013-09-23T12:22:00.002-07:002013-09-23T12:35:54.320-07:00Milan SS14 live stream overview<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We're three-quarters of the way through Fashion Month now. With the eyes of the fashion world now on Paris, we review Milan's Spring/Summer 2014 live streaming offering.</span></b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<b><iframe allowfullscreen="" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="360" mozallowfullscreen="" scrolling="no" src="http://vds.rightster.com/v/01z0p8pbx2qvn3?target=iframe&autoplay=0" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe></b><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><b>Video: </b><i>Milan Fashion Week SS14 highlights</i></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b>Milan is probably the most reliable of fashion weeks with around 40 designers showing their collection online every season. This season, 39 designers live streamed, which is slightly fewer than FW13 and SS12 which both had 42 shows live streaming.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Around half the live streams every season come via <i>Camera Moda,</i> Milan's fashion council. Their live stream offering is continually impressive with them filming shows from three different venues. Most other designers from Milan have embraced live streaming with <b>Dolce & Gabbana</b>, <b>Prada</b>, <b>Gucci</b>, <b>Alberta Ferretti</b>, <b>Emilio Pucci</b>, and <b>Versace</b> all being amongst the big-hitters to live stream</span></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><b><br /></b>
<b>Paola Frani </b>decided not to live stream this season, there were two less live stream from <i>Camera Moda, </i>and <b>Jil Sander</b>'s live stream experienced technical problems (but is still included in the total live streams this season).</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444;"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Paris is the largest of the big four fashion weeks. This isn't represented in their online offering, though, with only around 10-15 designers expected to live stream. Expect an article on this over the next week.</span></span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3211276853024729953.post-13149747671441871742013-09-16T23:49:00.003-07:002013-09-17T00:44:23.472-07:00London SS14 live streaming overview<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As the fashion pack move onto Milan, CatwalkLive.TV looks at London's live stream offerings from the Spring/Summer 2014 season.</span></b><br />
<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></b><b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="360" mozallowfullscreen="" scrolling="no" src="http://vds.rightster.com/v/01z0pmj6x2qvn3?target=iframe&autoplay=0" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe></span></b>
<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><b>Video: </b><i>Runway highlights from London Fashion Week SS14</i></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">28 shows live streamed from London this season, with 26 from the official London Fashion Week live stream, and 2 (<i>Burberry </i>and <i>Mulberry</i>) from other sources, also appearing on LFW's website. Last season 38 shows live streamed, while the season before 43 did.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This was a hugely disappointing season in terms of live streaming. </span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It is the third consecutive decrease in live streams season-by season, and it has been at least two years since such a small number of shows live streamed from London. Expect a separate article exploring this very subject once the dust has settled on fashion month.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The lack of live streams is down to a number of factors; shows like <i>Acne </i>and <i>McQ by Alexander McQueen</i> no longer show, the official live stream only came from the BFC Showspace and the Topshop Showspace (in SS13, shows like Roksanda Ilicic were also live streamed).</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Milan is next. In addition to Milan's fashion council,<i> Camera Moda</i>, offering their own live streaming, many designers embrace the internet and live stream their own shows. Expect a healthy amount of live streams over the next week - around 40. Paris follows; traditionally they're backward about being forward when it comes to digital offerings, but in truth, they're not that far behind London now.</span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3211276853024729953.post-26451143596291016772013-09-14T07:29:00.003-07:002013-09-14T07:32:45.248-07:00New York SS14 live streaming overview<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, while the fashion pack have headed across the pond to London, here's our overview of the live streaming offerings from New York this Spring/Summer 2014 season.</span></b><br />
<b><br /></b>
<b><iframe allowfullscreen="" allowtransparency="true" frameborder="0" height="360" mozallowfullscreen="" scrolling="no" src="http://vds.rightster.com/v/01z0scoax2qvn3?target=iframe&autoplay=0" webkitallowfullscreen="" width="640"></iframe></b><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><b>Video: </b><i>Runway highlights from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week New York SS14</i></span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">93 shows live streamed this season, of which 13 were from the Made Studios live stream, 62 were from the official Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week stream, and the rest were from other sources, such as the designer's own website. Last season 86 shows live streamed, while prior to this, it was closer to 70.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Disappointingly, <i>Adidas Y3</i> and <i>Diesel Black Gold</i> joined the likes of <i>Theyskens' Theory</i> by no longer offering live streams in favour of coverage via Instagram. You have to wonder why designers choose to take such a retrograde step, particularly when there are so many other real-time sources of photos available already.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">New York has by far the most generous live streaming offering. Much of this is down to IMG taking London's lead and live streaming every on-site show, while designers like <i>Alexander Wang</i> and <i>Marc Jacobs</i> also take advantage of making their collections accessible via live stream.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">London Fashion Week has now started and again looks to have fewer live streams this season than in SS13. It's a shame that the fashion week that led the digital revolution seems to have foundered in this respect.</span><br />
<br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3211276853024729953.post-54696102910124950562013-09-10T08:12:00.002-07:002013-09-19T13:44:37.316-07:00A day in the life of CatwalkLive.TV<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I thought I'd introduce the team behind CatwalkLive.TV, and explain a bit about what goes into making the site function.</span></b><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNdf0Ud7RazwUVP-m6eOO3nBAZVryW5lVOuqWY7dRzJsjJOe4QXp0iRyFqiX71DWEQjNTt3wlL734dE274JFFz6fWYodNIyCIm3vpYeYcddJzkGspWk_0dGIwjTHyZm53ueBc3YZ72CBQC/s1600/pressrelease-ss13-mobile.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNdf0Ud7RazwUVP-m6eOO3nBAZVryW5lVOuqWY7dRzJsjJOe4QXp0iRyFqiX71DWEQjNTt3wlL734dE274JFFz6fWYodNIyCIm3vpYeYcddJzkGspWk_0dGIwjTHyZm53ueBc3YZ72CBQC/s400/pressrelease-ss13-mobile.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The 'team' is basically me, one person; <b><a href="http://twitter.com/rozfashionista" target="_blank">Roz</a></b>. I designed the website, research the live streams, put the schedules together and deal with the social media.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Before the season begins, I have to go through the fashion week schedules. There's around 100 shows at each fashion week. I check around 500 websites and 150 Facebook pages in the run up to fashion week to try and work out whether designers are live streaming or not.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then I put the schedules together, both an overview of the whole week, and the daily live stream schedules you're probably familiar with. Every morning I check the website of every designer streaming that day, and every evening the website of every designer streaming the next day. So that's about 2000 web pages I visit.</span><br />
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<b><span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A typical day is this:</span></b><br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I will review the runway schedules and make sure all shows are present and correct.</span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I will visit the website and Facebook page of every designer that day to establish whether they're live streaming - that's normally around 30-40 websites.</span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I trawl through Twitter, Google and Email to double-check there's nothing I overlooked.</span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Every schedule update has to be done on the website, the mobile site and on the CatwalkLive.TV widget - I don't use fancy coding, I do this manually.</span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I update the video archive so that people can re-watch shows they've missed - normally around 5-10 shows are added every day.</span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I schedule the 'live streaming today' digest tweets, tweets about what shows we've added to the website and the #CatwalkLiveTVClashFinder warnings.</span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I respond to followers on Twitter - I try and reply to every tweet I receive.</span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If I'm not working, I will enjoy the live streams. If I am working, I'll catch up when I get home.</span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Throughout the day I am looking for problems - some live streams are added even throughout the day, if a live stream doesn't work I am scouring the internet for alternative links and making sure you are all informed.</span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In the evening I will make a record of problems, such as a live stream that was dropped from the schedule, so that schedules are even more accurate the season after.</span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I also do any website updates - this is almost a never-ending task and I'm constantly trying to add or enhance features.</span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I also look ahead to the next fashion week - we're in the middle of New York Fashion Week and I'm working on Milan schedules too.</span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In the evening, I go through every website and Facebook page for the next day to check for live streams (30-40 websites again).</span></blockquote>
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I write and schedule the #CatwalkLiveTVReminder tweets - around <strike>150</strike> <i>280 </i>already this season. I have to make sure the link is correct, the time the tweet is scheduled is correct (bear in mind I have to allow for a time difference as I live in Dubai) and have to jump through various hoops to have the tenacity to schedule two tweets at the same time. This alone normally takes 30-45 minutes.</span></blockquote>
<div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">All of this takes about 3-4 hours every day. I wake up at about 7am and the first thing I do is to work on CatwalkLive. I am currently going to bed at around 3am, and the last thing I do is to work on the site, too. I also work full time and obviously the site was born out of my enthusiasm for fashion, so I want to catch up with the live streams and stills.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Working on the site is a lot of pressure for me. Trust me when I say that every time I get a link wrong, or a show doesn't live stream, I feel awful. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I believe so far this season I have made one mistake, which was to say Tory Burch was live streaming on CatwalkLive, when it was actually her website. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I misread the MB Fashion Week schedule as saying the venue was 'Theatre' (from where it would have live streamed) when it was actually the <i>David H. Koch </i>Theatre. So, sorry about that. As soon as I realised (10 minutes before the show started) I corrected the listings, tweeted a correction and made my apologies to those who complained. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I take things like this quite personally as I spend hours and hours every day working on the schedules and feel a personal responsibility when things go wrong, even when they're out of my control (for example, the Diane von Furstenberg live stream), and then to receive criticism is just the final insult. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So, the basic purpose of this post is to explain how the site works, why sometimes it doesn't, and to basically say I try my best. Hopefully you'll agree when I say my best is better than any other live streaming schedule site. If it isn't, I'll gladly leave it to the professionals and save myself the stress.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I make life difficult for myself to make life easier for the users. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I could just list the live streams, but I feel if a job's worth doing, it's worth doing properly, so I present them in the clashfinder format so you can see at a glance what shows clash, when there are gaps in the schedules etc. Likewise, I remind users twice before each live stream - once before it starts, and once as the show starts. It would be a lot easier to do just the one, but I know I'd like to be nudged a couple of times before each show, and when I polled users when I originally came up with the concept, they agreed.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'll finish off by saying a huge thank you to so many people who have helped. If you have ever retweeted a reminder, pointed people towards the site or even written an article on it, you are too kind and I really appreciate it. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">CatwalkLive.TV is both the bane of my life and the love of my life. When someone says they find it 'so useful' it makes me smile because the site is born out of frustration at the lack of any other site like it. But when people complain, I have to admit I wonder whether they realise how much work goes into it, and how much they take the site for granted.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I hope in future if anyone spots a mistake, they'd <a href="http://twitter.com/catwalklivetv" target="_blank"><b>tweet me</b></a> or <a href="mailto:catwalklivetv@hotmail.co.uk" target="_blank"><b>email me</b></a> - it's a lot more helpful to me and the users of the site than just complaining about it elsewhere.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: #444444; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And if you read all the way down to here; well done! Here's a free air guitar.</span></div>
